About CalculateTSP

Clear, accurate, independent retirement tools for the people who serve.

CalculateTSP is a free, independent resource that helps service members, federal employees, and their families understand the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) and military and federal retirement. We build calculators and plain-English guides that turn confusing rules — pay charts, pension multipliers, agency matching, fund choices — into numbers you can actually use to plan.

Our mission

Retirement decisions in uniform and in federal service are high-stakes and easy to get wrong. Choosing a contribution rate, understanding the difference between the Blended Retirement System and the legacy High-3, or weighing Roth against Traditional can be worth tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars over a career. Our goal is simple: give you accurate, unbiased information first, so you can make those decisions with confidence.

What we offer

How our numbers work

Our calculators use publicly available, official sources — including Department of Defense pay tables, Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (FRTIB) rules, and daily TSP share prices from tsp.gov. The calculator runs entirely in your browser; the figures you enter are not sent to or stored on our servers. Estimates are simplified models meant for education and planning, not a guarantee of your actual benefit.

We are independent. CalculateTSP is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense, DFAS, OPM, or the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board. We are not financial advisors, and nothing here is individualized financial advice.

How we stay free

We keep the site free through advertising and clearly labeled affiliate partnerships. These never change the price you pay and never influence our calculations or guidance. See our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure and Privacy Policy for details.
